I had a lot of life changes in that time (got married, now have two kids, bought a house), but the most prominent reason for my lack of blogging was the election of Donald Trump in 2016. I recognize that I am a highly educated, Black male, with a middle-class upbringing. I acknowledge all the bias that particular perspective entails. However, I like to pride myself on a certain level of objectivity when it comes to my blog posts. Unfortunately, upon the election of Donald Trump I didn’t see a way my posts would not be a weekly screed against the latest injustices of Donald Trump. I just didn’t see a way that I could resist using every post to point out that Donald Trump is a narcissistic, ego-driven, amoral man who cares about nothing but himself.
Even in 2016, I felt that Donald Trump’s dictatorial urges would lead America to ruin. Sadly, my worst fears were confirmed when he incited an insurrection and failed coup attempt on January 6. I was planning to resume writing again and the events of the past week have only strengthened my resolve.
So I’m back and I’m starting this year off with a bang. The first few entries this year will be an investigation white supremacy and how it has evolved alongside democracy in America. It is my belief that unless White America fully confronts and breaks the back of white supremacy, America will never be fully free and safe for all.
I couldn’t think of a better way to honor the memory of Martin Luther King on MLK day, by posting this and continuing to do what I can to support the cause of diversity, equity, and inclusion for all for as long as I can.
